VOCATIONAL EDUCATION (IT/ITes) in Govt Mizo Higer Secondary School
IT/ITes was introduced at Govt Mizo Higher Secondary School in 2019. That year, the school recruited a teacher through Samagra, but the teacher left the same year. A second teacher was hired but also left due to personal reasons. Subsequently, Sir H. Lallianmawia, who holds an M.Sc. in Application Software Development and is a strong advocate of vocational education and entrepreneurship, began teaching the IT/ITes course.
Initially, the school selected Arts Block Section-B for the IT/ITes course. In 2021, Sections C and A were included, followed by Section-B again in 2022, and Section-A in 2023. According to the school’s 2024 prospectus, Sections A students are slated to take IT/ITes.
The IT/ITes curriculum emphasizes practical, hands-on training in CRM Domestic Voice. It covers practical activities in Word Processing Software, Spreadsheet Software, and Presentation Software. Additionally, although not part of the official syllabus, students are taught internet etiquette, digital literacy, and social responsibility in technology usage. The course usually takes place in the school’s computer lab and covers topics such as entrepreneurship, BPO, enterprise resource planning, blogging, social media usage, and email.
Enrollment in the IT/ITes course typically ranges from 80 to 90 students.

As the computer practical session unfolds, students immerse themselves in the fascinating world of MS Office tools. They are taught the ins and outs of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint Presentation, under the watchful eye of their dedicated instructor, Sir H Lallianmawia, a seasoned expert with over a decade of experience in teaching Office Automation and software development.
It is the teacher’s mission to ensure that no student is left behind, and that everyone gets a solid grasp of the material covered. They use various teaching techniques, including hands-on activities and group exercises, to cater to different learning styles and ensure that each student is engaged throughout the session.
Sir H. Lallianmawia has made significant contributions to the school. When COVID-19 hit Mizoram, he trained our lecturers in using ICT tools for remote learning, including online LMS, WhatsApp, and Zoom. He also developed the school’s LMS, enabling lecturers to share lesson content, assignments, videos, and learning materials with students who could not attend school due to the lockdown.
After the current Principal, C. Lalthangpuii, took charge, Sir H Lallianmawia, with her support, applied for an educational domain for the school through ERNET, resulting in the school’s website becoming govt approved educational website. He also applied for Google Workspace for Education, which the school now benefits from, thanks to the Principal’s support.
Furthermore, he developed the school’s Management Information System, a valuable tool for preparing terminal results and managing student information, including ID cards, profiles, and certificate generation.
As the students delve deeper into the practicals, they discover that MS Office tools are more than just basic word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software. They learn how to create professional-looking documents, visually appealing charts and graphs, and captivating multimedia presentations that can capture the attention of any audience.
By the end of the practical session, the students have acquired a wealth of knowledge and skills that they can apply in various settings, including school, work, and personal projects. They leave the session feeling confident and empowered, knowing that they have gained valuable skills that can help them succeed in the digital age.
